SS-31 (Elamipretide)
Mitochondrial energy research · From $78
Overview
SS-31 (elamipretide) is a cell-permeable aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide containing a non-standard 2,6-dimethyltyrosine residue that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane and binds cardiolipin. Preclinical and in-vitro studies examine its interaction with cardiolipin-cytochrome c complexes, the organisation of respiratory chain supercomplexes, electron transport efficiency, and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species generation, as well as age-associated post-translational modification of cardiac proteins in rodent models.

Research explained
The research interest
How the energy-producing parts of cells respond to stress.
What was studied
The selected study examined cell-energy machinery and kidney-injury experiments in rats.
Evidence context
The selected source covers laboratory work and rat experiments. Its scope is cellular energy and kidney-injury models.
Selected-source check, not a complete clinical review. No human-use recommendation.
Structure
D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2 (Dmt = 2,6-dimethyl-L-tyrosine; N-terminal D-arginine; C-terminal primary amide). CAS 736992-21-5 refers to the free base; acetate and trifluoroacetate salt forms carry separate registry numbers.
