Semax
Memory and nerve-growth research · From $45
Overview
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide corresponding to the ACTH(4-7) fragment extended with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro motif; it is non-corticotropic, lacking the steroidogenic activity of the parent melanocortin. Preclinical literature has examined its influence on BDNF protein levels and neurotrophin receptor gene transcription, dopaminergic and serotonergic turnover in rodent brain, and genome-wide transcriptional responses in rat models of focal cerebral ischemia. It is used in research as a tool compound for studying melanocortin-derived neuropeptide signalling.

Research explained
The research interest
How a peptide relates to nerve-associated proteins.
What was studied
The selected study measured a nerve-related protein and binding sites in rat brain tissue.
Evidence context
The source concerns rat brain tissue and protein measurements, rather than everyday cognitive performance.
