PT-141 (Bremelanotide)
Brain melanocortin-signalling research · From $48
Overview
Bremelanotide (PT-141) is a cyclic lactam heptapeptide melanocortin receptor agonist and the C-terminal deamidated (free-acid) metabolite of melanotan II. It displays preferential agonism at MC3R and MC4R relative to MC1R, and is used in preclinical and in vitro research as a probe of central melanocortin signaling, including rodent studies of MC4R-mediated neuroendocrine and behavioral endpoints and receptor-binding and functional assays in transfected cell lines.

Research explained
The research interest
How peptide signals relate to behaviour in an animal model.
What was studied
The selected experiment measured specific sexual behaviours in female rats.
Evidence context
This source concerns female rats. Its observations are specific to the animal behaviour measured.
Selected-source check, not a complete clinical review. No human-use recommendation.
Structure
Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-OH (side-chain lactam bridge between Asp and Lys; C-terminal free acid rather than the amide of melanotan II; contains norleucine and D-phenylalanine, so no standard one-letter linear sequence applies). Commonly supplied as the acetate salt.
