Overview
Epithalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) constructed from the amino acid composition of epithalamin, a bovine pineal gland extract fraction. It is investigated in in-vitro and preclinical models as a probe of telomerase (hTERT) expression and telomere length in cultured human somatic cell lines, and of pineal-axis and neuroendocrine gene-expression signalling in rodent and Drosophila systems. Reported mechanistic work centres on modulation of gene expression and melatonin-related pathways.
